LOG LINE: Bad is a film about a group of Russians in the
fashion industry who import clothing and take a trip to the USA to meet fashion
moguls. A twist of events has a top line
Ugly Chic clothing stolen by clean cut thieves and the tough looking Russian
visitors befriend the designer and help recover the clothing line in this
comedy.
SYNOPSIS: Maria, a dark haired intense beauty married
to Alex usually haunt old bars in shady areas that are protected as cool in
their local USSR stomping ground. Back alley legal shipments of clothing from
prominent designers are sometimes delivered at ungodly hours by their friends
in the business who do not live a linear time reality of predictable schedules
to the bars where they hang out accommodating European time difference of the eclectic.
Alex and Maria
travel to the USA to meet other designers for import to the USSR. Vladimir a friend of Alex and Maria’s designs
labels for alcoholic beverages. The three friends enjoy all the vices together,
smoking, staying up to ungodly hours, drinking and success and retain an
uncanny sharpness of observation of human integrity or lack of it and they
treasure their long time friendships.
Lavine, a US young
model arrives in town for her first big modelling jobs and her mother drops her
off at a hotel and has a meal with her and says her goodbyes and leaves her
daughter to the modelling world.
Meanwhile local US designers Monique; a French woman; Armand; a long
time ‘American classic with the European touch’ designer and Jonathan, designer
of the label Ugly Chic for modern working, young clientèle who hate getting up
in the morning all work on their fashion shows and upcoming season collections.
Tennyson, another young model also funds success and love in her life in the
fashion world.
Lavine meets Mark a make
up artist she falls in love with from work and her modelling career begins to
blossom. The Ugly Chic shipment is stolen and the Soviet invasion helps to find
the shipment ironically a group of highly clean cut men in glasses are the
thieves of the much in demand hot couture from Jonathan’s unique design mind.
Alex befriends Jonathan and he sends him away with clothing gift for Maria
which is an excellent compliment to the worn, cool black leather look of the
Rusky’s usual fashion mood. Vladimir is
selling his original art label designs for liquor bottles and the friends
celebrate their success with the usual clandestine meetings in interesting
places.
All the US designers
collections are highly successful and the Russians return to their home
country. Vladimir takes a walk alone to
the cemetery and meets Charlie who has been putting flowers on the grave of a
deceased child for thirty ears which leads to the question: Is she back? For if so the whole tomb
visitation may be a waste of time!
Vladimir shares absinthe at the cemetery with Charlie from his flask and
the two men return to their local reality.
Vladimir, Alex and
Maria return to the USSR and decide to invest in diamond mines they celebrate
and look forward to more prosperity from their business ventures.
